The Stupid! It Burns! (arguing with stupidity edition)

the stupid! it burns! Arguing with atheists [link fixed]
1. Atheists often times consider themselves to be the intellectual elite:

A. Their attitude is that they have looked at the world through the cold, hard, eyes of reason, and have come to the conclusion that there is no God.

B. The rest of us are intellectual peasants who are weak and need an emotional crutch. If we would just use our minds for once we would come to the same conclusion as they.
Well... yeah.
[2.] A. The way to trip up an atheist is to ask him how he knows there is no God. ...

C. If there is a God he can reveal himself to us, but if there is no God it is impossible to know since the negative cannot be proved.

D. Since the negative cannot be proved then it is impossible to reason to the non-existence of God.
Curses! Foiled again!
3. Most of the atheists I know can usually be put in one of four categories: [sad and angry; disillusioned; disgusted; prideful]

  1. I don't think you have to be very elite to be an atheist. Plenty of atheists report that they figured out that religious claims were BS when they were still kids. In fact, point B contradicts the eliteness claim, since it implies that anyone could be an atheist if they critically examined their religious beliefs even once. "Eliteness" shouldn't describe something that everyone could achieve with modest effort.

You didn't provide a link, but I did a search and found the piece at http://heartstruehome.blogspot.com/ . And what a treasury of stupid it is! The next entry on the blog, "Arguments against atheism", is even crazier.

  4. Under Atheist Delusions :-
"In the interest of brevity, I will only say that the Inquisition was set up by the Roman Catholic Church to stop the promiscuous torture and execution of people condemned of heresy and witchcraft by the state. In this respect, the Church largely succeeded."

That made me spit out my coffee in laughter. Best laugh I had in days.

Please pick a handle or moniker for your comment. It's much easier to address someone by a name or pseudonym than simply "hey you". I have the option of requiring a "hard" identity, but I don't want to turn that on... yet.

With few exceptions, I will not respond or reply to anonymous comments, and I may delete them. I keep a copy of all comments; if you want the text of your comment to repost with something vaguely resembling an identity, email me.

No spam, pr0n, commercial advertising, insanity, lies, repetition or off-topic comments. Creationists, Global Warming deniers, anti-vaxers, Randians, and Libertarians are automatically presumed to be idiots; Christians and Muslims might get the benefit of the doubt, if I'm in a good mood.

See the Debate Flowchart for some basic rules.

Sourced factual corrections are always published and acknowledged.

I will respond or not respond to comments as the mood takes me. See my latest comment policy for details. I am not a pseudonomous-American: my real name is Larry.

Comments may be moderated from time to time. When I do moderate comments, anonymous comments are far more likely to be rejected.

I've already answered some typical comments.

I have jqMath enabled for the blog. If you have a dollar sign (\$) in your comment, put a \\ in front of it: \\\$, unless you want to include a formula in your comment.
