  2. this is one of the few atheist blogs on the internet which doesn't a: obsess about religion and b: promote an ayn rand style 'anything goes' libertarian political viewpoint, at least in the margins. i check it daily.

  3. I don't think it's fair to say that atheist blogs "obsess" about religion; religion is an serious force for evil and deserves the degree of critical attention given to it by many atheist bloggers.

On the other hand, after writing about religion for almost a decade, I myself got kind of bored and burnt out; I decided to move on to other topics.

But make no mistake: I'm still a "militant" atheist and implacably hostile to religion.

I was implacably hostile to religion for a very large part of my life, before the gradual realization set in that religion is largely irrelevant.

Every sensible person already knows, at some level, that God -- even if it does exist -- is irrelevant. Some otherwise intelligent people expend a lot of energy lying to themselves about it. That's their problem, not mine.

History is killing religion now. Twenty years of adulthood, watching the world change around me, has convinced me of that much. What remains of faith is just so much retrocultural pining for childhood (literal and emotional).

  5. History is killing religion now.

Indeed. But as Marx noted, history is made by people.

  6. I put my time -- almost a decade -- into the struggle against religion. I've turned my attention to different matters, but I don't regret that time, and I don't condemn or deprecate those that continue the struggle in my absence.

Please pick a handle or moniker for your comment. It's much easier to address someone by a name or pseudonym than simply "hey you". I have the option of requiring a "hard" identity, but I don't want to turn that on... yet.

With few exceptions, I will not respond or reply to anonymous comments, and I may delete them. I keep a copy of all comments; if you want the text of your comment to repost with something vaguely resembling an identity, email me.

No spam, pr0n, commercial advertising, insanity, lies, repetition or off-topic comments. Creationists, Global Warming deniers, anti-vaxers, Randians, and Libertarians are automatically presumed to be idiots; Christians and Muslims might get the benefit of the doubt, if I'm in a good mood.

See the Debate Flowchart for some basic rules.

Sourced factual corrections are always published and acknowledged.

I will respond or not respond to comments as the mood takes me. See my latest comment policy for details. I am not a pseudonomous-American: my real name is Larry.

Comments may be moderated from time to time. When I do moderate comments, anonymous comments are far more likely to be rejected.

I've already answered some typical comments.

I have jqMath enabled for the blog. If you have a dollar sign (\$) in your comment, put a \\ in front of it: \\\$, unless you want to include a formula in your comment.
